Faye Providence
Faye Providence is a world created by gods as a playground. Each age brought more creatures and races that the gods put into play, until the 4th Age when the people of the world were displaced by fantastic beasts.
First Age
In the beginning, Yurastus created a world, that was wild with plant growth, and strange magic that enhanced the creatures he set upon the land. Opposite his twin sister, Xurona copied his world and made one of darkness with its own form of strange magic and creatures. After centuries of watching the wild world, Yurastus created a new world that mimed the landmass of his first world. This new world had more control over the wild plant growth, and magic while it still existed, it was not as strong as the other world. As he fashioned the world, his sister sent her energy into the world, merging her world of darkness into it. When everything was done, the world became linked to the two other worlds by a then magical membrane that the creatures from the other worlds could pierce to travel between them.
With the world created, Yurastus wanted to create fewer creatures this time and took time to create fantastic beasts that were covered in scales as hard as metal and colored like precious metals, with great wings coming out of their shoulders. He imbued them with great magic and long life. Then he created tiny wingless copies with scales that were not as strong. Where the fantastic beasts walked on four limbs, these tiny copies walked on two legs. The tiny creatures quickly began worshipping the fantastic beasts and became their servants in life.
Unknown to Yurastus, Xurona copied her brother to create similar fantastic beasts. They looked the same except where his creations were metallic in appearance; hers were more shades of chromatic colors instead. Where the tiny creatures had free will to worship the fantastic beasts, Xurona created slightly bigger creatures in the image of the fantastic beasts, but she forced them to be slaves to the fantastic beasts. These slaves took their place in stride, believing this was their only lot in life.
These fantastic beasts never bothered to create a calendar, so they had no way to track when the world dissolved into a war between the beasts of Yurastus and Xurona. As the war intensified, the fantastic beasts were killing each other off until; finally, they reached a point where they had no choice but to retreat from each other and regroup. As they pulled back to the world’s edges, taking their servants with them, they established a new home and worked to recover.
Second Age
As the fantastic beasts of the First Age retreated, four siblings became caught up in the world that was created. Not needing to create landmasses, they focused their energy on creating a few more different creatures to inhabit the world. They placed their creations in the world and gave them free will to explore. The creations of the first brother, Asladir, were short and stalky humanoids with an affinity for digging in the earth. In addition, he created a companion for them in the form of clockwork automatons with magical souls that powered their machine bodies. Their sister, Idona, created her own beings, long slender humanoids with pointed ears with an affinity for nature and humanoid plants that walked and talked like anyone else but shared more with nature than any other. These races banded together to form trade alliances and mutually worked together for the betterment of all.
Opposite them was their brother Chudur who took after Xurona and made creations that he placed in hostile environments, extreme cold, and extreme altitude, all with the goal of strengthing his creations so they could attack and destroy Asladir's and Idona's creations. The first was humanoids with tusks like a boar jutting out of their face and an attitude just as dangerous. The others were humanoids with quills like a porcupine on their body that they could use in battle with deadly accuracy. The final sister of the four was Yasis; she was the ugliest of the gods and goddesses that watched the world. Her creations shared her appearance, one short, the other more medium in height, but each with large rounded faces and long pointed ears. She gave them green and gray skin to mark them as different from the other deities’ creations.
All was well with the world; the humanoid race of Idona studied the sky and created a calendar that matched the seasons. They shared this calendar with the other races. Accepting this information and getting in initially with them was all a ploy before the races of Chudur and Yasis attacked the creations of Asladir and Idona. Taken back by the sudden war that had sprung up, the two sides battled for centuries by the reckoning of the calendar; eventually the races needed to retreat or be wiped out. They stayed in the center of the world instead of retreating to the corners as the First Age did. Instead, they set up small domains that they controlled and protected vigilantly.
Third Age
With the war effectively over, the final siblings joined the mix. They were Adis, Olvian, and Theen. Adis was the shortest of the gods, and thus made creations that mimic that height. First, he created the always-curious craftsman that soon began working with Asladir's creations. The other was a humanoid rat that inhabited the underbelly of any town or city they could find. Both were experts in manipulating find objects though they used that skill for different ends. Then there was Theen, the other short god just a couple of inches taller than Adis. He was the most friendly and jovial of them all and created a short and plumb race that came to become merchants, innkeepers, and general expert businessmen. His other was a race of flightless bird humanoids that resembled ravens; they, too, were cordial and very formal in dealings with others. Last was Olvian, the most neutral of everyone, always trying to mitigate fights between her siblings. Her first creation was the most adaptable, surviving in the frozen wastes to tropical areas. The other to follow her recent siblings’ additions, was a humanoid cat, for she enjoyed the joke that there were rats and ravens, so why not a cat?
These six new primary races blended into Asladir’s and Idona’s creations, forming alliances and bonds that stretched for thousands of years. Also, subraces began appearing within the different races, devilish kin with horns and a tail, angel kin with their significant presence, and even some monsters created hybrids of existing races with hag-like changelings, werewolf-infused beasts. There were many more that could be counted. Even a couple of races came over from other worlds or planes to partake in this world. Sure there were still skirmishes with Chudur's and Yasis's creations but no outright war. As the years went on, there was less fighting and more reconsidering of a small sect with the races.
Before any lasting peace could be felt worldwide, the fantastic beasts of the first age returned. The chromatic-colored ones launched a full-scale invasion of the Second Age and Third Age races, destroying all their cities save a couple. These either were hidden away or protected by powerful magics.
Fourth Age
According to the calendar, it has been 337 years since the year the fantastic beasts destroyed the known world. Today the cities of Mystlight and Molrinor are the primary two havens for races of the Second Age and Third Age. There are still small villages of people scattered around the world that were not killed off, or who may have sworn loyalty to a fantastic beast for protection. There is still one pocket of adaptable humans who refuse to allow any other race into their cities; it is a mystery why their cities were not destroyed, but most people have no time or even knowledge they still exist.
This is where we start our stories. Fantastic beasts control much of the world, and the humanoid races have banded together because where once they were enemies, it has been clear that the saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," is more apt today than ever it was in the past. Thus Mystlight and Molrinor harbor all races trying to escape from the fantastic beasts.
When it comes to the deities, the people have turned their backs on the ones that created them for new ones that have gained powers just from their worship. There are greater powers that they believe hold the original gods locked away and some lesser powers that look in on people. There are also creatures of power that have been worshipped by cultists and wizards seeking power.
